# The Brand Was Strong, but the Family Was Divided

Case Studies

A consumer goods company with a long tradition, firmly established in its market for decades, had stalled. The products were established, the brand well known, yet the figures were stagnating.

Neither revenue nor earnings developed as hoped. The organisation had grown over the years, but not with the necessary efficiency. Much worked, but nothing worked really well. New impetus failed to materialise. Particularly challenging was that the family leadership disagreed on where the journey should go. There was no shared vision for the future, let alone clarity on operational implementation.

## Analysis

The comprehensive review revealed a typical picture. A strong brand, high internal loyalty, but structural inertia. Decision-making was slow, responsibilities were unclearly assigned. Brand management felt outdated, the product range overloaded.

The greatest challenge was that change had to be carried not only professionally but also emotionally, especially within the owner family.

## Approach

As a first step, a new governance structure was established. An independent board of directors took on responsibility, mediated between the shareholders and restructured the executive management.

> "We had everything it takes, but we needed someone to help us see it again. Now we are proud of what we do once more." (Family shareholder)

At the same time, the organisation was streamlined, the product portfolio focused and the brand modernised. Within a short time, a clear presence emerged externally, along with a motivating framework internally.

## Repositioning

The new brand world was very well received in the market, modern and confident, yet built on the old strengths. Much changed internally too. New leadership principles, a clear strategy and a consistent understanding of roles created new momentum.

Within a few quarters, the company recorded noticeable growth, both in revenue and in its team.

## Conclusion

Tradition is a strong foundation, but it does not sustain itself. When family businesses are open to external impetus, unexpected strengths often emerge. Clear structures, a strong presence and a shared vision create not only new energy but also economic success.
